The coldness of the icy water was like thousands of needles piercing through my skin in every part of my body. With a loud splash, I landed into the river, wincing a little. As I dove into the blue sapphire water, I forgot what I was doing in there for a moment. Coldness surrounded me, trapping me inside and every single inch of my body was begging me to get out of the water into the warmer air. I kicked open my legs and spread my hands open, pushing the water away until the top of my head reached the surface, and then finally, my neck. The weather was not very hot. It was just perfect; warm, with soft wind blowing. Rustles of grasses and leaves could be heard, and the scent of trees just made the evening perfect. I gazed at the bridge where I jumped, suddenly remembering why I was here. I took a deep, long breath before putting my whole body into the freezing water again.
The river was not too deep, and having it as clear as Mrs Vanora’s bakery cases made it easier for me to find what I was looking for. It was just hiding under the seaweeds. It was round, the diameter just about the size of my wrist. Though it was just a simple handmade bracelet made of twigs hugging each other, it was more than that. The fact that it was made by little hands, made it even more special to me.
When I could inhale fresh air once more, I swam to the shore, holding my precious treasure protectively in my hands and then ran towards where a six year old boy was sitting on the field, his head down and his hands clutched, waiting for me.
“Hey Jay! I found it!” I called up, waving my nobel prize. I could not help but feel excited to see his reaction when he saw that I succeeded.
